Kenji Nakayama is a visual artist and sign painter originally from Hokkaido, currently residing in Boston. After moving to the United States, he graduated from the BUTERA SCHOOL OF ART (closed in 2012), a specialised school for sign painting established in the 1890s, in 2006. Since then, he has been involved in numerous commercial sign (signboard) designs and painting projects, as well as art projects and corporate branding designs. With an academic perspective on typography, he is a rare figure in today's landscape, where few people pursue sign painting as a profession. In 2016, he exhibited his work at a group show at the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, and in 2020, he participated in an exhibition at the Fuller Craft Museum in Massachusetts. He continues to pursue his passion for art and craftsmanship with a spirit of exploration.

北海道出身、現在はボストン在住のビジュアルアーティスト / サインペインターです。渡米後、1890年代に設立されたサインペインティングの専門学校　BUTERA SCHOOL OF ART（2012閉校）を2006年に卒業、現在までに多くの商業用のサイン（看板）のデザインと塗り制作の他アートプロジェクト、企業のブランディングに関わるデザイン等を数多く手がけてきました。タイポグラフィーの学術的視点を持ち、サインペインティングの仕事を手がける人が少ない昨今ではとても希少な存在です。2016年にはSan Francisco Museum of Craft and Designでグループ展で作品を発表し、２０２０年にはMassachusettsのFuller Craft Museum での展示を行うなど探究心を持ちながら日々、アート工芸の活動に取り組んでいます。
